Found in the UP?

I went out to check the woods today. Didn't find anything in Berrien County. I did see that the Dutchman's Breeches, Bloodroots, and Trout Lillies are now blooming, and the Mayapples and White Trillium are coming up.
A cold front just went through and gave us some much-needed rain, so it won't be long now!

A friend of mine posted a pic of two beefsteaks and a small morel on her facebook page yesterday.
She said she only found 1, so I imagine she doesn't plan on eating the beefsteaks.
I thought the morel looked more like a verpa...hard to tell sometimes from a photograph. I'd have to see it in person.

Re: 2014 season

I've been paying attention to the weather to try and identify the right day to go out ans start looking. I wonder if I am looking for too much of an "unlikely" weather pattern. I thought that what we want is to have three or four days of temperatures in the 60's and a good rain for a few days and that would be the cue to start looking...should I consider looking for a different weather pattern? Thanks in advance.

Re: 2014 season

I found 3 grays in my front yard. They are about 2 weeks later then normal. We lost a lot of shrubs this year due to the horrible winter

Re: 2014 season

This season is starting later than mormal, which is frustrating most hunters. I wouldn't worry too much. Look at what we've got.

A super cold winter. Snow cover from Nov. to March, Cool temps with slow warm up. Regular rains to keep ground moist while warming. Everything we've always wished for. And now it is almost time for morels.

I believe the morel gods gave us everything in one year that we could ask for, and I believe they will reward us with a bounty.

My only regret is that I won't be able to hunt like I would like. My foot still hasn't healed from last April's injury, so I will be contained to roadside hunting only, if that.

I got a hunch that even Bachflock will be able to find one this year! LOL

Re: 2014 season

Why are you using grocery bags when hunting ? You should be using a mesh bag to help release spores for future growth no matter where you hunt.

Frank - I'm not holding my breath but I've got a couple of burn areas less than 20 miles from my home. I'm hopeful. That is as far as I'm going with prospects... hopeful. LOL!
