Asam prawns (hot)

1lb/500g prawns - shelled & deveined
1 tbspn tamarind juice - from mixing tamarind & water
2 tbspn brown sugar
salt to taste
dash of pepper
1 1/2 cup water

pounded ingredients
10 shallots
3 cloves garlic
1/2 inch tumeric
2 tsp chili paste
1 small piece dried shrimp paste

1. Mix prawn with sugar, salt, pepper, marinade for 20 minutes.
2. Heat oil in pan, fry pounded ingredients until fragrant, add tamarind juice & water, season to taste , bring to a boil.
3. Add prawns, simmer for 2 minutes or until just cooked. Do not over cook the prawns.
Serve with steamed rice or bread.
