Re: morel season preparedness- week 17

Just saw on wwmt news feed that there will be a winter tree identification class on Jan. 14 at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute in Hastings.
I'm sure you can find more details if it's something that you would be interested in.

morel season preparedness-week 16

This week celebrate safely. It is extremely difficult to find morels in the following places:

1. A courtroom

2. A jail cell

3. Six feet under ground

morel preparedness- week 15

OK fatso, get out and drop that holiday weight. just imagine shedding 20-30 lbs by morel season with an aggressive diet and exercise program. I need it more than most of you as I am on the wrong side of 300 lbs. Anyone up for a Michigan Morels Biggest Loser Contest? Let me know cause I'm gonna be on it like a pack of dogs on a three legged cat.

Re: morel preparedness- week 15

sounds like a plan. I gained 5 over the last 2 months so I will be starting from behind.
Remember to start slow and build. If you go too hard too soon you'll get hurt or discouraged and quit.
Best wishes for your new healthier lifestyle.

morel preparedness- week 14

Make an appointment to go see your Doctor. Insist on a blood test to make sure you have not contracted Lyme Disease from last year because the ticks were terrible. Make sure you aren't diabetic or have heart problems. Nothing can ruin your mushroom hunting like illness. I just had an employee of mine miss 8 weeks of work due to Lyme disease, and he is a city slicker who has never been in the woods. He had muscle weakness and swollen joints and is still having difficulty walking for long periods.

morel preparedness- week 13

This week is time to look into reservations if you take a "mushroom trip" up north in May. Many campgrounds and motels/hotels run early bird reservation specials. It may be too early to predict exactly when you want to go, but it will be good to know a price range and explore different options (especially if the place you have used for years is juicing you).

morel preparedness- week 12

This week it is time to start looking into reservations for your mushroom hunting trip. Most serious hunter take a trip or two up north each year. Some hunt to try to get coolers full, while others like to find a few mushrooms and a lot of 12oz beverages. Which ever the case, there are many great campgrounds and motels that are frequented by mushroom hunters, and many run early bird specials for reserving early. I used to stay in a dumpy motel in Kalkaska each year. About 5 years ago I discovered I could rent a posh 2 bedroom condo for about $5 more per night than the dumpy motel. Do your homework and upgrade and/or save $.

This weeks tip: get your eyes checked. You're never gonna see um if you can't see um to begin with. My Dad has been wondering why he can't see them like he used to. Maybe because he hasn't gotten new glasses since the 90's. When I get new glasses it always takes a few weeks for my eyes to completely adjust to them, so now is the time.
