Gaylord, MI Area

Any luck finding Morels in the Gaylord, MI area? How has the weather been this spring, any rain? Here in Ohio, we've been getting tons of rain, just wondering if it's been the same in Gaylord.

Looking to take my 71 year old mother up this year. Any idea when it might be peak season in Gaylord area?

Thanks for any help and information, and best wishes for a great morel season.

Steve

swdke, I live 25 mi. east of Gaylord, in Lewiston. We've had enough rain, but it's been pretty cold here. I've been out twice and haven't found anything. I've heard of people getting a few small Blacks, But that's it. I'd say at least another week, or more yet. I can fill you in a little more after tomorrow. Lewiston is having their Morel Festival then.

Debbie and I were just up there and in two hours or so Friday, we only found 27 small blacks. Most of the nights there have been below freezing except the last 3 or 4. So If it warms up a bit and the night temps hold above 45 to 50 we may still be able to have a black morel season. Everyone we talked to up there said the same thing. Few and small and very late coming on.

Went north of Gaylord for the weekend. Must be way too early. Came back home by way of Evart, down by Cadillac. Found almost nothing there. Bad year for me. but I'm sure there will be some for later.

Re: Gaylord, MI Area

Thanks for the great information. For those finding them now, are they black, gray, white? Thanks!
