Woodcock nest and a spring peeper...

The first pic is of a woodcock nest w/a clutch of eggs. I spooked mom off the next at only 2 feet. Hopefully she'll return to the nest. The second pic is of a spring peeper I found on a hunt about 2.5-3 weeks ago. It stood out loudly against the brown leaves. When I first spotted it I thought it was some sort of ground fungi. Then I saw the texture on its skin and briefly thought I was standing over some sort of snake. THEN I used my shroonin' stick to move the leaves and realized what it was. For reference - the letters on my stick are 1.75" each. The last pic sort of speaks for itself. I found this in the middle of the woods! Its now in the trunk of my car headed for the local Road Commission.

The best lessons are those learned before you wish you had known better, especially when thinking edible mushrooms.
