I have found this site to be pretty accurate for local soil temps- http://www.greencastonline.com/tools/soil-temperature

I have found blacks in woods full of Black Cherry and scattered Tuliptrees.
Tuliptrees do not occur in Northern Michigan. They are, however, common in Barry County. (Isn't that where Yankee Springs State Rec Area is?)

I was reading about how thunderstorms are like liquid fertilizer. The lightning breaks the bonds in the nitrogen in the atmosphere, the nitrogen then bonds to oxygen to form nitrogen oxide, which dissolves in the rain and is deposited by the rain in the ground. Perhaps this will also stimulate mushroom growth. There has been plenty of lightning during the past few hours across Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana.

All I'm hoping for is a season like Ohio is having right now. Huge numbers!

Re: Spring of 2019, and Morel Season Predicti

I went out to a friends property for a few hours today and didnt find any. There was a lot of standing water so I was wonder would that effect them not being there yet? Should I be looking for higher ground d right now with all the rain or is it still a little too early?

Depends where you are. Blacks are coming up in some places but there aren't many good black spots in my area (that I'm aware of). I'm in Kent County and we're probably a couple of weeks out yet from what I can tell. Everything seems to be a couple of weeks behind because of the temps.

30 minutes North of Macomb County on 94. I dont know what the name of the county. I could look it up but I didnt... anyway in a couple weeks when it warms up should i be looking for grey's and whites? It's been about 30 years since i went and i was a little young back the. I remember my dad and uncle finding them and then give the kids a general area so we could actually find and pinch them off. My kids had fun in the woods for a few hours so looking forward to going back out in a bit.
