Rate the 2008 morel season

So now that it's all but over in the Lower Penninsula, how would you rate this year's morel season? I'm not asking how many you found, but just a general assessment of whether you feel it was a great year, good year, average year, below average year or bad year.

I did not find as many as usual, but I also spent a lot less time looking, which leads me to believe that it was proabably about an average year, production-wise, for both the blacks and the lighter species.

Any thoughts?

Just a few...

I'll go with above average to really good on the whites and greys...the blacks were a let down where I hunt them and I did not try any new locations this year.

Above average to really good for us. The weather was great while we were out there, which helps a lot when couple with the amount of very nice yellows/grays we found.

Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don't know and I don't care!

It was poor in my regular hunting spots but better than average when I discovered some new hunting territory.

Sadly, I was unable to go north this year.

Slight'ly better than last year in my area. Although, a lot of stumps were found and the end result would have changed somewhat. To much competition. In fact, i went on hunt for blacks with 5 other folks ( i never did find a single one) almost locally.

I personally would have been embarrassed bringing such SMALL morels home that were cut,not only by the guys i hunted with, but also by other folks that we bumped into.

Since i have never hunted blacks up north, don't know what it is like finding them 2" to 4" tall, i am giving up on them locally.

Enough with the complaining, lets move on to the others.

How is it that one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire??
