I hear ya Gary. I hunt up by you, but my girlfriends place has them everywhere. The numbers I stated earlier are per field. There aren't a ton up north like downstate

That is most definitely true in southern Michigan, while many places in northern Michigan seem to almost be absent of deer to the effect that tourist dollars are lost and a lot of businesses are going under and it is not just the economy.

I hear you Mike, there are definately good numbers of deer down here in southern Michigan. Turkey numbers have been increasing where I hunt in Washtenaw county as well and I am happy to see that because I can hardly buy a pheasant sighting anymore! Coyote numbers are way up too. I think we just just dont have enough public land/hunting opportunity here in the southern part of the state to keep numbers down to a more reasonable number for this region of the state.

Re: Am I the only one,

From what I've read, the number of hunters has steadily gone down over the years for more than one reason. Also, trapping is what usually keeps a lot fo the animals at bay(coyotes, racoons, etc) but trapping participation has gone down too because fur prices have not been up and the younger generations are not finding an interest in it as much. Fix some of those problems and you will see coyote numbers fall.......as for deer numbers......I would be more than willing to take my fair share of deer but with so many land owners and farmers in general not allowing people to hunt on their property, it makes it difficult.

Sometimes you hear of farmers leasing out their property for hunting and such but what is usually happening is people coming in and hunting their properties for bucks and not just trying to cull the herd.

Re: Am I the only one,

Numbers have steadily gone downhill over the last couple of years over here by us, miker. See it up by our cabin, as well.

We used to have a lot of them in our back yard, and now we're lucky if we see one a month. Same with turkeys.

Coyote population has increased, too, so Jeff is of the belief that they are a big part of the reason for the pattern change. We don't see the turkeys at our bird feeders the way we used to.
