How far north are the whites?

The wife and I are getting ready to head north for mothers day and are wondering how far we can go. Any info would be great.

Think they will be up for the Mesic festival?

Not sure how they are right now, but we're doing a day trip up north this weekend. Will let you know what we find out from the Lake County locals.

We were North of Kalkaska yesterday and the greys were just starting. The weather looks promising with rain and warmer temps.
Mesic should be pretty good? But this year it's hard to say.

Was just on the phone with a member who lives in Manistee. Temps are warming up and no reports of frost. Some severe weather by Lake George today and raining from Traverse City all the way down to Ludington. More rain predicted. I too will be heading to Wellston for the Mesick Mushroom Festival over the Mothers Day Weekend and plan on spending lots of time in the woods. My prediction of early blacks the first weekend of April was right on and I'm hoping my luck holds out for the Mothers Day weekend as well. I think its going to be a perfect weekend. Anyone who heads up that way this weekend, please post what ya find.
Thanks!

East of Port Huron May 3rd...13 small whites in a city park. The season isn't over yet by any means. I think that the next ten days will be bumper!!

Re: How far north are the whites?

Saturday made a quick trip north to check out a few of our favorite spots for whites. Hit our secret honey hole by Boyne Falls only to find the forest looking early, 44 degrees, very small fiddleheads. Found no morels.

Headed back south about an hour to Mesick area. Temp in one hour went from 44 to 64 degrees, and the woods looked totally different. Lots of foliage, trees full, decent sized leek leaves, ferns about 1 ft. tall. couldn't believe the change of conditions in such a short distance. Found only 4 whites, and several really dried up blacks.

Following the weather forecast for the 10 day outlook, if I had to put money on when they'd pop, I would say possibly this weekend for Mesick, but more likely 10 days. And for around the 45th Parallel, I'd say a good 2 weeks or more, to get the woods caught up.

Most of the sign we've seen is that the whites are more on schedule than the blacks, however, I wonder the affect the early warmth had on them. Messed up year, for sure!
