Anyone in the Atlanta area can give a report?

I think my wife and I will be headed up this Thursday morning for our annual morel hunt up north. I was wondering if anybody has been to or lives around the Atlanta-Alpena area that could give a weather/morel report? So far and from what I've been reading, it's not looking so good up there. We may wait one more week...

Anybody know how many days of good rainfall Atlanta has seen in the past two weeks? How about lows/temps at night? Temps at day?

Would appreciate any info!

Re: Anyone in the Atlanta area can give a rep

We were close to there Saturday, just north of the 45th Parallel, and at 2pm it was only 44 degrees. Found nothing.

Based on that, we won't be going back for another 10 days to 2 weeks. The woods just didn't look close for the whites.

I'd keep my eye on the weather channel 10 day forecast.

Good luck if you do venture north!

Thanks Tammy...I think we are going regardless at this point. We both already have the time off - so here's to hoping!

I live near Atlanta and I'm looking at 35 degrees right now. Inch and a half of rain ten days ago and another half early this week. I think the weather in the next two to three weeks will make or break this season up here. Good luck.

I am in Boyne Falls and we are finding all whites and yellows. All are fresh and nice size. Some grays and a total of 2 blacks. This is the norm for everyone we have talked to.

We just got back, had a good time up there but only came by half a dozen! :( The largest was the last one we found, right next to the pile of firewood in the back yard....of course...go figure...3" tall and 3" around...Found 3 blacks, only one of size, and two whites, one only an inch tall, lol.

Talked to a local in Lewiston, while driving through and checking out the festival...He said he usually finds hundreds of pounds....This year, only 17 pounds...I concur...Just a bad year compared to last year.

Total bust for us.

Re: Anyone in the Atlanta area can give a rep

Spent the last couple days in Atlanta, nothing happening, even
surprised there were not very many people. Came home early it
was so bad and that was after a shopping trip to Gaylord!
We're done for the year, was a bad one!
Had a problem with ticks which is the 1st time ever.

Ticks!!

I was in oscoda over the weekend and the ticks were absolutely horrible in about 4 hours of picking between the three of us we had about four ticks on each of our jeans! I have noticed that the number of ticks in the woods near oscoda seems to have grown rapidly over the past few years. I have only ever encountered the woodland tick which does not cart limes disease, but they are still nasty critters!

Has anyone else noticed an increase in the tick population recently and know why?
