Crazy morel story

So, I was on my home from college and noticed an old man walking in the ditch with a plastic baggy that looked like it suspiciously carry morels in it. I slowed down and started looking in the ditch on the opposite side and found 3 HUGE yellow morels......that got the juices flowing so I watched all of the ditches on the way home driving slow on the shoulder with my 4ways on lol. I was about to give up when I found 7 more HUGE morels that were taller than a plastic pop bottle, then the owner of the house I was in front of came out and we talked for a long time seemingly about everything and anything and they invited me to look in their old apple orchard in the back where I found about 10 black morels and the tallest was about 6in. I have never had that kind of luck before and how I spotted the very first yellow in the ditch from my car is beyond me

I thought the blacks were done down here but I guess there is still a few sprouting...the ones I found looked to be a few days old but not all dried and nasty looking.

Ok, so I was wrong about what the old man was doing, he was picking wild asparagus!! So I had to go back into town and that is when I found 13 more nice yellow morels and some asparagus. Guess it would be smart of me not to tell anyone about my new secret spots then lol.

Ranger, many folks here hunt the roads, we call it trolling, after you train your eye, you can't believe what you can see at 45 to 60 miles an hour, out of the corner of your eye, mike

Yeah, when I was in the military in Virginia we found a lot of them on the side of the road but for some reason it didn't click after I moved back here . I found the first ones moving about 35mph and was pretty surprised to find them.......guess it pays to have a trained eye that is for sure!

I am definetely going to drive around more during morel season to save by back and knees.

Re: Crazy morel story

I found a whole bunch more today. I have probably about 10-15lbs worth and I found a 2 headed morel today too that I have never seen before. Anyone else seen one of these before.....a 2 headed one not a 2 stalk one?
