Mother-in-law needs prayers...

Just found out she had a stroke on Monday (lives in Toledo). She's off the ventilator so that shows improvement but not out of the woods... My wife will be traveling down to see her. Please keep both in your prayers.

Thanks...

Vance, our prayers will be with you, your wife and her whole family.
We understand first hand how difficult it can be on family as well as the individual themselves.

Update...

It sounds like she's officially out of the woods in the sense that she's recovered enough they are now longer worried about pneumonia. She has absolutely no movement on her left side but she's able to speak, with some difficulty, recognizes people, and swallow, again with some challenges there. She's been transfered to a long term care facility and sounds like her spirits are picking up a bit which is great.

Thanks for the prayers so far and continued prayers for as much recovery as possible under the circumstances would be appreciated.

Prayers, for sure, Vance...for all of you.

You didn't mention her age or health prior to the stroke, but for what it's worth, my mom is a stroke survivor. Four years ago, at 69, she suffered a massive stroke while grocery shopping. She was in ICU on life support for a week when she had another stroke. The neurologists didn't give her much chance of leaving the hospital alive. After 3 full weeks in ICU, she was removed from the ventilator and transferred to the Neuro floor...still not remembering who any of us five kids were, and still not eating. They took her into surgery to place the feeding tube, and when she was back from recovery, she suddenly looked around and knew us all. She was transferred to a nursing home for rehad, and after three months there, was back at home. Within a year after her stroke, she was living alone again and driving her car! Her short-term memory isn't real good, but she can remember details from when we were all kids like it was this morning!

So...the doctors can give you a prognosis, but my mom is proof that they can only give their best guess.

Praying that your experience is the same...

Thanks Tammy, that gives some hope. I believe her biggest challenge right now is not giving up on herself. We're planning on going to see her soon.
