Hen of the woods

This is what you look for while searching for morels. Any damaged large Oak can be a hoast to numerous hens. This one had 2 of them. This tree will see me again in the fall.

Hey victor, i hunt mushroom all year long, not just morels. I posted this pic. of the hen of the woods, (Grifola frondosa) to show people what an OLD,Dryed out rotten one would look like this time of the year. And return to the same in the fall,Sept----Nov. to harvest the good ones.

Here is a pic. of of a good one. Look at the one i'm holding in my Avatar.

Re: Hen of the woods

Good find WB. But 2 1/2 days searching morel country in upper MI I saw only 3 'old hens' all on one tree. Down here in mid Mich. I get dozens of hens every year. I think they tend to like a different ecological niche.
