Ash tree devastation in Macomb County

Spent several hours in and along the wooded areas surrounding Freedom Hill Park in Sterling Heights today and found zero.

What I did find was an abundance of dead mature ash trees. The area was absolutely littered with them. Anybody that doubts the magnitude of the emerald ash borer disaster should take a drive by--you don't even have to get out of your car to see the dead stands of trees.

The area probably was at some point a morel haven: lots of mature ash, wonderful direct southwestern exposure, and nicely drained soil (on the north side of Metro Parkway.)

How depressing!

Did anyone out there ever have success in the past there?

I'm heading up north.

By the way, I found hundreds of little orange mushrooms in the tall grass. Anybody have a clue as to what the are?

lheurequidort - let's see if I can access my French brain and translate that - l'heure qui dort - the time sleeping - does that mean "bed time"?

Yes, I've seen lots of dead Ash stands here in S.E. MI, but I've never looked for shrooms in Macomb County, so I don't know if that stand ever produced. But, in general, I've never found many morels under Ash down in this part of the state, as opposed to the north and west, where I've found many...

Re: Ash tree devastation in Macomb County

"L'heure qui dort" translates into "the bear who sleeps."

Good guess, though.
