Right now is the time

to start your research, scouting and such for next year.I noticed that some new hunters were struggling this year. That being said, don't make morelling a spring activity. To better you odds start now for next year...research,scouting,map reading, this forum, read and re-read posts, always be on the look out for new spots when driving around in the summer. The more you put into it the better the end results will be.....good luck all and be safe..

Re: Right now is the time

Good advice Gary
Ive been scouting as I drive back a forth to work..pretty much everytime im out now. As a newbie for the morel hunt this yr .. I had to find spots to even start . I covered some places right out door ...nice 3hrs walks. After no finds in the areas i have covered a few times , im am forced to scout out new grounds .
I have a strong background in the word "hunting " ..and hunting always includes scouting .
Learning from this site has gave me the tools to make my chances even greater
Even if I get skunked this yr ,I will have new options for next yrs try .
location location location is the trick

Wish me luck this wknd ...new grounds to check out after all this rain and heat on the way ...fingers crossed and lots of bugg spray!!

Gary that is the best advice given here as of yet, I know alot of the newbies are getting discouraged, but this is the time of the year for ya's to get out and scout, look for old dead morels, look at the trees and so forth, ya ain't gonna find morels sitting in front of a computer, mike

Re: Right now is the time

Example:..on an ice fishing trip this past winter I happened to notice an area of woods back away from the main road that looked like it would be a good area to explore this spring.Remembering this spot, when things were right I slipped in there in the middle of the week to check it out and it turned out to be a honey hole that no one else has been in.If I had'nt been looking for spots in the off season,I would have never found this place.....

Re: Right now is the time

Ha! I've done the same thing. Winter is a great time to spot woods.
