Your favorite Herbs to grow

What are some of your favorite herbs to grow in your gardens?

Do you keep some herbs growing inside during the winter?

My favorites are Sage, Rosemary, Thyme. Trying basil in window pot this year and think I will plant some next year. I've never used fresh Basil much, but I am coming to love it as a fresh herb. So fragrant as soon as you tear or cut the leaves. Kind of a slight mint taste fresh, that I don't seem to get with dried.

Re: Your favorite Herbs to grow

Yeah, basils one of my favorites. We've been heating it up in butter & brushing it on sweet corn. Great stuff. Also have fennel that comes back every year. It's 3 ft tall & went to seed. Chewing the raw seeds tastes like licorice & is a natural mouth freshener. Also good to cook with. Sage & lemon balm are the other 2 we have. They really bring a dish to life if thrown in the last few minutes of cooking. Never tried them on mushrooms yet. I don't want to cover the flavor but a little bit of herb might be interesting ? Chickens might be a good one to play with. Now I'm getting hungry.

My must haves are basil. Parsley and chives. Basil goes in salads and pasta. Parsley as well. And nothing better than fresh chives with steak and Taters

Add Chives to my favorite too. I forgot those.
Had two clump right outside the front door when we lived in gayord. Just walk out and snip what we needed. I even brushed snow of them and clipped before they got frozen too hard. LOL

Re: Your favorite Herbs to grow

Keep the comments coming. I'm planning my garden for next year.

Any tips are appreciated. For instance I just learned not to plant Basil too close to sage. Inhibits both from growing right, but seems to inhibit sage more.

How do I know. Debbie bought me to plants of sage and two of basil just planted in starter pots. Put both on window sill. Basil grew, but sage didn't.

Took cutting from both and placed on same window sill. Basil rooted and sage cuttings rotted.

So now I know that I will plant basil and sage at opposite ends of the herb garden. Live and learn.

This coming spring I may try to throw in a small garden. I'd love to grow some peppermint and some tarragon. I love tarragon tea...

HA HA! I somehow just KNEW that your list of herbs was going to much longer more than mine.

Bay Leaf?
I'm interested!
Does it survive severe cold winter well?

I always thought it came from a tree in the mediterranean regions.
Never knew we could grow it here.
