Never smoke a Puffball...

Or maybe never dry an inky? How about a "I've tried this and don't recomend it" thread? Early this year I tried making shroom jerky out of Dryad's with mixed results (misted w/teryaki and smoked worked!so did pepper) So...with all the puffs around (bland but soaks flavors) why not "smoke em" ? YECH!!! concentrated campfire! And ofcourse trying to dry the ink's just made black muck...Or maybe a "whatcha think" works better. (with opinions of thread creator omitted) I admit I tried the following and "its not bad" so...Cut puff's in cubes about size of lg dice, mist with lemon juice, I tried half with morton hot salt and pepper and half I dusted with powdered suger and placed on wire rack in oven on low with door cracked untill they look like shrunking marshmellows (Midnight till now so about 5-6hrs). The hot salt/pepper might be better with wine viniger instead of lemon juice. The candy coated one was just weird but...maybe honey next time?

I heard if you hang em upside down by the roots, that helps improve the flavor and dry them quicker, mike
