Morel Season Preparedness weekly countdown
Morel Season Preparedness-Week 26
This week is a great time to scout new areas if your trees have not lost all their leaves. You can see a little deeper in the woods with reduced leaf cover. Try to spot those dead elms and cottonwoods and make a note of their location for the upcoming season. Feel free to add any tips on scouting, but any other weekly ideas should be PM'ed to me. I have to come up with 25 more of these. Last edited by big amish; Oct 20, 2011 at 2:12 pm. Reason: spelling |

Re: Morel Season Preparedness-Week 26
I go hunting for chaga while deer hunting and,Log areas by groups of predominant trees. Alot easier to see brown oaks versus grey big tooth aspen. Do out before the snow......next tidbit please !

Morel Season Preparedness-Week 25
This week's focus is on your house. Take care of those fall yard cleanup tasks and some of the "honey-do" items around the house. The more you get done now, the less you should have to do this spring around morel time (unless your wife is like mine and will just give you more stuff to do).

Re: Morel Season Preparedness-Week 25
Too bad my husband doesn't read this :-)
But the same goes for us ladies. Maybe there's a yearly task that is usually set for spring that can be switched to fall. sharon |

You know Jeff, I think this is a great idea. So many people think of the season as only a few days in the spring, yet it IS much more. Thank you for starting the idea, I look forward to seeing your (and other folk's) ideas each week. :)

Morel Season Preparedness-Week 24
Week 24's goal is learning how to use your GPS better. Some of you may have one, but use this week to learn all the features. I have a brand new, but large older model still in the box that I intend to learn to use this week. GPS is probably the most important innovation in mushroom hunting since the first mushroom stick. Master it and master the morel year after year.

Re: Morel Season Preparedness-Week 24
I have a garmin colorado....out has topography and traces your trail. Easy to show you exactly what trees you've hit our miss....& of course waypoints. Pack lotsa extra batteries and dont go cheap! Save new areas now while hunting or whatever you're doing.

Morel Season Preparedness-Week 23
For this week, as we pause to honor our nation's heroes on Veterans Day, we need to pick the brains of the veteran morel hunters. All the computers and GPS's in the world can't replace the wealth of information these guys have.

Re: Morel Season Preparedness-Week 23
One thing I do in unfamilar woods is watch the fallen leaves on the ground.....when I find the right leaves, if I see the right leaves but not the trees I walked into the prevailing wind til I find the right groves...
