All done?

I never saw the mouse this year, or bricktops.

We had a marvelous 10 to 14 day Indian Summer right in the middle of October. Temps were into the high 70s and low 80s for almost two weeks. It was glorious, but it completely destroyed the fall mushroom hunt.

You are right on that Ed, no mice no bricks either here, but blewits are still happening, mike

Re: All done?

Perhaps that just means a delay? Fall Oysters and Man on Horseback should still be coming and I've yet to find a single Blewit ... don't these continue into November? After all, the leaves are still falling in some places.

I found a big fresh Horse Mushroom last weekend and was still seeing a few Shaggy Manes a little over a week ago ... that suggests a delay, does it not?

Re: All done?

glenn, It is possible we are in a stall period, but in my past experiences, if the stall period doesn't straighten out within a 2 week window, the season is usually shot in the a$$, and being this late in the year, I believe the turnaround time is almost half that, they are saying we are in for a warming period this weekend, that may help but to what extent I can't even attempt to make a call on it, it will all play out on its own, it is best to stay observant and hit your tried and true spots.
I have seen bricks and blewits flush all the way into December before, if conditions are right.
I also enjoy reading your posts, you seem to have a good amount of knowledge and a keen eye for what ya do, so that makes ya a dang good shroomer, keep up the good work and more great posts, mike

Re: All done?

I'm actually quite new to this but have been reading a lot ... thanks for sharing your real experience-based knowledge, Mike. I guess once it starts snowing or staying near freezing for more than a few days only winter mushrooms will be out there ... a few oysters and velvet foots. But I do not think freezing temperatures have occurred for more than a few hours near where I live in Grand Rapids. I'm wondering how mushrooms detect the actual date more so than the temperature and/or rainfall amount? That amazes me.

Re: All done?

Hey guys , am I missing something here? I never heard of bricktops or

mice? I have found some Blewits recently thanks to Marys'(beastybird) guidance. Sunday mornings walk provided some fall oysters also.
Thanks, Gary

Wild Steve says ... "It's a good edible, especially when you find it in quantity in November (it will come up even after there's been a couple of light frosts), when most other mushrooms are gone." ... and this seems to be true.

The ones I found on Sunday looked more like these ... http://www.mushroomexpert.com/images...eritium_02.jpg

Re: All done?

I guess the delay theory was correct, at least in the Grand Rapids area ... just found quite a few Blewits after the heavy rain in an urban area.
