Morel Host - Black cherry tree identification

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wde84UMt6iA

Someone here asked for some tree ID vids. The one above is for Black cherry, Prunus serotina. I find LOTS of morels growing around younger stands of Black cherry.

Hope this video helps.

Besides a host for morel mushrooms, Black cherry is food and medicine, it is also deadly poison in some cases. You need to know which parts to use and how to use it or it could be a bad thing. I've used it to carve spoons and such too, works pretty good and doesn't seem to check or split as much as some other woods.

Take care,

Roosevelt

p.s. don't overlook any fruit bearing trees or shrubs you find.
