2012 morel season poor overall

Don't feel discouraged by the poor 2012 morel hunting season people.
It has been strange, and not really productive year for almost everyone.

It started very early, due to very warm winter and exceptionally hot march.
But then took a dive as colder temps in April and May took hold.

Debbie & I never even went out.
Mostly because of health (80%), and partly, because of poor hunting success by others (20%).
My back was bad and Deb's MS has her legs weak, and fatigue great.
Near as I can tell, we didn't miss much.

It does hurt though.
This is the 1st season we never been in the woods together for spring morel hunting since 1995.
I love the time together in the woods and finding morels with my sweetheart!
We both missed that greatly this year!

Next year will be better for all!

Darn those health issues! I sincerely hope 2013 season finds you in woods hauling in Morels.

I turned 65 this year but feel like 85. Not too many seasons left.

Sorry for your health problems Debbie & Frank. I hope it will be better soon !

2012, best season ever for me... Excellent weather conditions, and lunar phases.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, but I think I should have left the mention of why we didn't go hunting out of my post. LOL I didn't intend it to be a "poor us" post. LOL

Samuel, I am happy for your good year.
This season was far below normal in Michigan. But we have had it the other way too, haven't we?
Happy to hear of success where ever it is!

It was an odd year. I did far better in mid mich area this year than up north.

Re: 2012 morel season poor overall

It was an off year, but I still managed over 600 for the season. Persistence and planning paid off. Areas 10 miles or more east of me were very dry and did not produce well. Areas 10 miles west or more produced well. The lack of success in the proven areas led to finding new areas. If we have a good year like last year and I have time to clean out all the old and new spots, I'll find more morels than ever. I hate to say 'told you so', but most of what I posted in the Morel Preparedness thread paid off. I did discover I don't like hiking boots very well since my feet get sweaty even on cool days and I switched back to old tennis shoes unless it was wet in the woods. As a Cubs fan, I will apply the appropriate phrase "We'll get 'em next year".
