I found three very tiny morel sprouts yesterday in SW MI. I'm guessing they'll be decent-sized by this weekend.
Plan on going out again this weekend, as there may be some. The ones I found were about the size of a grain of rice or a tic-tac.

Re: Woods photos & need id

yeah I hope to go out but i am probably going to need to find someone who knows what they're doing to show me whatever it is i'm missing that's left me with not having seen one in two years of hunting.

did you get a chance to browse through the photos? There was some shelf type on a birch tree, and i remember reading somewhere here recently about good stuff on birch trees... and also the thing i pulled up that looks like it's got a half dozen onion bulbs under it. Thought maybe that it was those ramps everyone talks about but looking up the photos of ramps it doesn't match. And there was some other shelf type that was actually soft... kind of orange... anyway wondering if that's any good to eat whatever it is.

That's better. I can see these. lol

The orange ones look like Mock Oysters.

The center one probably is a birch polypore, but it is not the prized Chaga.

And the plant on the left, I've no idea.

You probably dug up the last remaining plant of some species, and are going to prison for a 152 years!
Only 132 years with good behavior knocked off. LOL

Re: Woods photos & need id

Thought it did a bit too. Now all the sudden i'm not so sure it was a raccoon.

Didn't get any other pictures as i thought i had a great one with him looking right at me. But definitely red-brown fur (badly matted) dark fur around the eyes. Kind of small body though not like the big fat body i see in pictures of Wolverines.

Also idk how a wolverine would have gotten there. these woods are fairly close to residential area, in fact i was right up against the fence line here. About 10 feet from someone's backyard. There are little patches of woods here and there, but nothing like the range i hear these things like to operate in.

Also the last one spotted in the state was in '04, and there wasn't one recorded as being seen in the 200 years before that.

I've cropped the photo of him so it can be seen better.http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3...pse1cfa750.jpg

Question Re: Woods photos & need id

Not outside the realm of possibility!! The one spotted in 04 is suspected to have rode a garbage barge over from Canada. I think I heard it was found dead a few years ago. If one came here, im sure others could follow! Wounder if there is someone with the DNR you could email that pic to?
Im almost sure its NOT a raccoon!!
