Storing Half Free caps

So last season I happened upon a patch of half frees about 40' wide and picked a bunch of caps to take home. I had them in a soft mesh bag and on the second night back from the trip they melted. I found them the next morning smelling like something had died and tossed them all, Luckily they were separate from my morels. Are these a use right away type of mushroom? If so ill just leave them in the woods for others.

We always cook them (along with any others that are fragile, blacks are more fragile than yellows so they don't dehydrate as well) right away, most of the time in eggs or maybe gravy. I imagine you could dehydrate them but we never pick more of them than we can eat!

May is here! Good luck to everybody! I'm going out tomorrow here in Northern Indiana, we've had a few warm days in a row.
