Marquette Rail Santa Train.

This is a photo I took of the Marquette Rail Santa Train yesterday near Brohman.
This train left Comstock Park on Saturday Morning, stopped at all the towns along the way to Baldwin, then west to Ludington, then headed back east to Walhalla and up to Manistee, stopping at Fountain, Freesoil, Stronach, and finally Manistee. At each stop, pre-selected families were given Christmas Trees. I guess they held a drawing and the winners were drawn and notified to be there to get their trees. They had 7 left over at the end.

I followed and photographed the train, and observed a good snow cover on the ground in Manistee National Forest. Hopefully that will remain throughout the winter and preserve moisture for next year's morel season.

Re: Marquette Rail Santa Train.

Regular freight trains do not normally use cabooses anymore, and haven't since the late 1980's. (Early 1990's in Canada and on Canadian owned trains.)

Local freights sometimes still do, as do special excursions like this one.
Here's a photo of the rear of the train I took at Walhalla.
