Over the past 2 days I found several pounds of chanterelles, some of them golden but most cinnibars and ignicolor.

I did find 10 hens but only 4 were worth picking. Also found a nice chicken that hadn't opened up yet, I'm eating that for breakfast.

Didn't see a single honey stumper!

Nice! I will keep looking. Found an old chicken and missed the trumpets. They were beat by the rain and past prime. Hoping to score a good haul of hens and honeys for the winter.
Good luck

I'm a bit concerned about the honeys. Last year which was similar to this year I picked hens and honeys in August then it warmed up a lot in September.

After it cooled down again I picked a lot more hens but didn't find any honeys.

I had grand plans to can honey mushrooms.

I did find a quince tree so I'll have to focus on making quince jam for now.

Also have a few pounds of chants to clean lol. Gonna do that now and get them in the freezer.

Back in august I found some small Pinners in an area I found honeys before. Went back a week later and they were already past prime and rotten. Maybe a bad sign

I just got in and it's bad out there! It's like the woods were sprayed with fungicide!

I went to a good hen tree and found 4 disgusting rotting piles. Must have missed them by 4 weeks at least! I assume they rot quicker in the summer than they do in the fall and winter. I watched a patch of hens rot for months last year for a photo essay and those took forever to rot.

This particular oak produced at least 6 hens last year if not 8 and I checked it all the time so I know they are not last year's hens.

As far as honey stumpers? NADDA! Nothing! Zilch!

But the good news is I didn't see signs of their decaying bodies.

Did find a huge conk that I posted in learning center. Haven't had time to look through the books. It is really big... I mean they are... found 5, the largest is over 2 feet.

I think the piles if rotting hens you saw were most likely sulfurous cinnsinatus. They grow low on the tree like a hen. Saw a few the other day that the rain helped rot. I think were late but not out of luck.

I could tell they were hens but I did run across a chicken I picked off of last month and it was a really gross heap of dog vomit.

Last year's L. cincinnatius turned white and are still there to some degree. No new chickens in those spots. I keep checking. I also have a cherry tree on my property that gave me a sulphur shelf last year and it hasn't produced this year.
