Hens shaggys puffbalss and more hens

The total of hens was close to 60 lbs.

Found them on Friday and Saturday. Going out again tomorrow.

Have yet to find parasols yet. What kind of woods do you find them in? Nice haul btw

Wow! what a haul. Hope the hens are clean. That's a lot of cleaning. I find my shaggies in oak & pine.

Holy Molly bluefinn! That picture is amazing!
Do they always grow so gregariously?

The parasols I harvested grew under spruce trees. Cleaning the Hens and cooking then freezing took several hours.

Mister Zee I'm cleaning yesterday's hens right now. I got one on the dehydrators last night and had to borrow another one. I'm thinking of freezing some raw. Might try it several ways and keep an online journal of the techniques and results. I hear hens freeze well raw. I'm not so sure about that but will find out.

Here is some of last nights haul.

By all means keep track of how the different ways work out.

I personally do not care for them dried but many people do. I cook them in butter and then freeze. When I use them later I fry them straight from the freezer without thawing. I do the same with the parasols.

Went out for a hour today and found five more hens.

Doreen, freezing hens raw worked for me. The came out tasting very close to fresh. I love hens. Going to hunt some over the weekend. The 10 shaggy manes I had for dinner last night has got me hungry

Thanks Wayne

I had to put a few in the freezer. A friend dropped off buckets of tomatoes yesterday so I had to process those right away. They are the smallest romas I've ever seen so it is taking forever. I'm putting the rest through the squeezo! Peeling tiny tomatoes is a waste of hen hunting time.

I broke the hens into large chunks and knocked off loose dirt and put them on a tray and stuck them in the freezer. I didn't wash them.
