Talking Heading North

Heading north this weekend, Friday June 5th through Sunday 7th. Usually go to the Vanderbilt area. Usually mid May but couldn't make it till now. Any shrooms still left this late in the year or are we just camping this weekend?

Thanks-

Adam

Re: Heading North

Adam, I was just up there last weekend. Vanderbilt and Wolverine area. I found about a dozen keepers, but some of them had been hit by the little snails or whatever they are. I found a lot of mushy ones. Unless you know a really good late spot you'll be just camping. Still a lot better than work.

You probably need to cross the Mackinac Bridge and look in the U.P. Blacks were just starting around St. Ignace on Memorial Day.

Re: Heading North

Thanks for the info. We will try our luck and report how it went. You are right, definitely better than working Friday!

Re: Heading North

We would head further north but never looked around up there. Not sure where to go. If we find nothing we might head up and try to find a spot.

Thanks,
Adam

I would look for public lands like National Forest or State Parks.
Depending on how far north you go, there may still be some blacks...like maybe around Copper Harbor. If maple trees are just starting to leaf out where you go, look around apsens for blacks.
Look around Black Ash or White Pine for yellows in areas of the UP (southern) where the Trillium are starting to fade.
