Me and the boy

Went out this afternoon to check one other spot I have for honeys. Took my boy and he found the first couple clumps. Then we see a bunch of amanita muscaria. He asked what they where and I told him the name and that they were toxic. Then he says" Ima neada leave those alone" lol. Kids! Anywho then we picked some ignicolor chanterelles and got caught in a downpour! Good times, we laughed the whole mile back to the truck. Then as we got to the parking lot it stops. The boy wanted to head back out saying" I'm already soaked to my underwair." Told him some other day. Tomorrows the first day bck to school and this was a good end to the summer for both of us.

Cute kid! Nice basket of shrooms too! I've only picked 3 honeys that didn't have worms. I only like them in the button stage but I think they are just getting started here. It's been a couple of years since we've had a good honey flush. I know the neighbor's woods is going to be packed with them. I'll go look tomorrow or later tonight. Not sure I want to deal with them this year but they would make nice gifts once canned.

I missed the honeys the last two years! One of my favorites. Couldn't beleive the lack of bugs! Great year. Got a lot of buttons!

No skeeters, shroom worms, slugs, nothing! I will say I picked open cap honeys on Sunday that weren't there on Saturday! I think the speed they grew had a lot to do with it. Below is a pick of how fresh the Kings were on Friday!

Has it been extremely dry up there? Do you have sandy soil? Why do you live in such a nice area and mine is so awful? WHY WHY WHY?

I do have clay soils and we had a lot of rain this year but typically we have terrible mosquitoes every year.

The shrooms in that pic look perfect! I'm so jealous.

To add more to my pity party I have to tell you this:

I went over to the neighbor woods to check on my heavy hen producers. The farmer (owner) had sprayed a lot of the weeds in the woods and burned some of the stumps.

That is terrible! Omg I would cry! Your persistence will pay off! You are resilient and will overcome this! Yes my area I pick is sand, clay, swamp, ridge, vally, pine, oak, maple/beach, ext... I guess what I'm saying is it's a lot of everything
