First freeze 2017
10/26/2017 is the first freeze in my area of central Michigan!
4:05 AM and it is it 25.5 degrees outside. Great long tomato season for canning! Too bad I didn't grow any. LOL Had to buy from markets. Oh well, they still taste good, and are on the shelves.

Re: First freeze 2017
My furnace came on the other night! It's not even November! The furnace is NOT supposed to come on until November! Does the furnace think I'm made of money and can afford to feed it in October? It's not like it runs on candy!
I guess I forgot to turn it down last Spring. It was set to 60. After 7 hours tramping around the woods in the rain today I did turn the thermostat up to 63. I'm getting weak in my old age! |

Re: First freeze 2017
I haven't checked the Jewelweed and Pokeweed on my property. (Those are two watery plants that are very sensitive to freezes) I don't think my part of Berrien Co. has had a hard freeze yet, though we've had frost, and some snow flurries this morning.
Mushrooms along the lakeshore are probably still ok...in places like Warren Dunes S.P and Grand Mere S.P. in Berrien Co., and Van Buren S.P. in Van Buren Co. A hard freeze is defined as 28 degrees or below, for at least 4 hrs.
