Another salmon trip...Another salmon!

Well, I grabbed my brother-in-law last night and we headed out to Lake Michigan for a fishing trip. We set up out in deep water, and fished for two and a half hours with NOTHING! Then....I found them. In 45 minutes we landed four and lost three others. It was like a Chinese fire drill in the back of the boat with just the two of us! Wouldn't trade it for anything, though! Here is a couple pictures of our catch. We got a 3, 7, 9, and 14lb Kings. Here is my brother-in-law with the 14lb King.

And here is the four we managed to haul in. Fresh salmon for the block party tonight! Neighbors are going to love that!!! Probably going to need a few brownie points after accidentally dropping all kinds of junk out of the back of my truck that made A LOT of noise at 3am this morning. OOPS!

Brandt,

How do you fix your salmon? I just took a fillet out of the freezer. The wife wants to poach part of it and give me the rest to stick in the Cookshack with a little oak. That makes for some real good eating on a bagel, with a smear of cream cheese.

Oh man, George! A little smoked salmon sounds mighty good right now!!! I just hate all the prep and work to do it.

I cook my salmon many different ways. Mostly on the grill just for the ease of it. One really easy/great tasting recipe is to marinate the fillets in Italian Dressing over night. Throw it in some tinfoil, little onion slices, seasoning, lemon slices, and throw it on the grill until it flakes. DELICIOUS! I have also come up with a unique recipe that is surprising very good. The seasoning, "Mrs. Dash"....Use it as you would use a rub. I know it sounds weird, but the seasoning is not overpowering, and it has a great flavor! Then I cook it on the grill the same way. Some onion slices, and lemon slices right in the tinfoil with the fish. MMMM!!!! I'm making myself hungry! LOL! Now that I think about it though, don't use the Mrs. Dash as a rub, just apply it quite generously so it pretty much coats it. But, yeah...I don't do that as a rub. It's another recipe that I do, that wasn't as good.

That is an age old question. I think they all taste just as good, but you always hear someone say when they catch a small one, "Boy! That's going to be a good eater!"

What they don't want to say, but they are thinking is, "Three hours out here and we caught one three pound salmon??!!"

Nice catch anyway.
Yeah....It had mature eggs in it. As well did the 9 and the 7lb fish. They are finding that more of the fish are spawning at 2 and 3 years instead of the 4 years that everyone first thought. It's a good thing really! Get more natural salmon out there! Of course there is still the 25-30lb 4 year olds that are waiting to make their run too!

It was excellent eating. ALL OF THEM!!! Yeah, Mike....The neighbors were more than happy to scarf up some fresh caught salmon. I got so many compliments on the fish I cooked up. Everyone was trying to hit me up for some more salmon, or a trip!
It is 5am, and I am totally "kicked in", if you know what I mean. I'm afraid to lay down in the bed right now. The block party was a smashing success! And the Texas Hold 'em tourney proved to be profitable for me too! I am not looking forward to work in a few hours!
