Ahistory goes to Washington

I recently had to travel to our nation's capital so I thought I would share a few pictures I took when I was able to get out and see the sights.

Thanks. I was looking at the names on the Vietnam Memorial (not having been there myself) seeing if I might recognize a name. And, of course, I didn't on such a small sampling. But, the way the names were listed seems somewhat puzzling. It appears to be some sort of convoluted alphabetical order, but I was wondering if anyone knows how those killed in action were listed on the tablets. Just wondering.

George, you can't really see it from that picture but there is order. This website explains more.

I took some other photos of the Vietnam and Korean Memorials. I will try and add them later when the kids take a nap.

Thanks Stan,

The article helps, but it appears that the order of being killed or missing in action must be; by week, by month or something like that, and then in alphabetical order.

Yeah George, it seems like even these days they release the names of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in batches every few days. It must be something like that.
I posted some more photos of the war memorials. I wish I would have been able to get some good shots of the WWII monument but it was two dark by that time.

thank you Stan for these photo's.

Taken at twilight like this seems to add a somber sense of a personal nature as we remember our fallen brethen as they defend us, others and democracy in the world.
