Ain't it weird?

There's one area I've searched for three springs in a row and never found even a sniff of a morel. But it's just so dang likely looking I can't help myself. It's a stand of poplars with just the right amount of exposure, leaf decay and sticks. Looks like the blacks out to be popping out of there by the dozen.

I guess that's what makes it interesting.

Re: Ain't it weird?

Shroomstalker, you're in Grand Haven? I work there and live in Fruitport. I have had a really hard time finding any spots down here. I have a couple of spots where I can find dozen or so every year but not much more than that. Seems like it's all private land here, and the public areas don't produce.

I usually just end up making a trip or two to Benzie County or South Haven, where I used to live. I can find them there. But a spot closer to home would be nice. Not looking for you to tell me a spot, just griping I guess. :-)

Re: Ain't it weird?

I'm completely with you Kapok, I live in Spring Lake and am still to find a spot close to home where I can find any. I've been in multiple areas that really look good but haven't had any luck. I know they are here someplace. I think that part of my problem is that by the time the yellows start here I am driving north to hunt. Best of luck.
