Picked some with my wife today!

Well, my wife is pregnant and due in three weeks. I was honestly shocked that she wanted to go. (Has a hard time getting around being pregnant and all.) We checked out my black spot and did pretty good. Picked 78 blacks, and 10 half-frees there. Then I went to check one of my other spots where I found a few blacks last year. Low and behold I think I actually found a true black morel next to a cottonwood tree. Was the only one I found, but had VERY large pores and was most definitely meatier than a "Brown, or regular black". I thought it was kind of cool and my wife and I really had a good time. Sorry no in-field photo's either. I forgot my cell at home.

Yeah, she actually likes morel hunting. She would have went with me alot more, but being so far along in her pregnancy she hasn't been feeling up to it much lately. She went with me picking chants last year too. Honestly if the bugs weren't flying in her eyeballs, and if the mosquito's weren't a darkening cloud that you could breath she would have liked that too..lol!! This is definitely going to be a family event in the future. That's for sure!

Those look like bells to me. I've seen other kinds with grey tops. Ate them both and they are delicious. The grey ones I found in the same spot every year but the last year they were over a foot tall and the stalks were big around as a silver dollar. Never grew there again....well not in the last two years. Well good luck with the season. Happy pickings.
