Just a few...

Here's some pics from our trip into the woods... The color variety is amazing. The woods are on-fire with colorful fungi right now. Beautiful stuff. Just thought I'd share. And, if anyone has a suggestion what the fungi is that looks like a deflated puffball, let me know. It was the texture of a cup fungus and didn't actually form a "puffball", just convoluted flesh. I thought maybe a cauliflower at first but it was growing next to a pile of discarded wood and miscellaneous trash.

Thumbs up Re: Just a few...

Nice pics Vance, the woods by me are the same way, all the colors of the rainbow, wish I knew more about some of them, was in the woods today and there was coral mushrooms everywhere, I could have filled a 5 gal. pail, I did leave with about 2 lbs. of golden chants they seem to be out heavy duty right now.

Re: Just a few...

Thanks Gene. As far as corals go I grew up eating them. Only recently (last year/year before) did I figure out that there are some poisonous varities. So, needless to say, I've not picked any since. I want to find out more about them. I was talking with my dad, whom still picks them, and he believes the poisonous are mainly out west. I don't think that the case BUT... Anyway, I also found my first ever purple coral this year. Very beautiful. Edible according to the books.

Re: Just a few...

Thanks for the nice pics. Went to the woods for a little while today. It's been quite a while since I've seen so many different kinds. Stopped at my Trumpet spot and hit the jackpot. Brought home enough to fill my dehydrator. the house has the wonderful aroma of chants right now. They are huge. Hoping to go back out in the morning to check the area out better. It was pretty dark out there this evening. Also found a few Chants, Cinnibars and Lobsters.

Trumpets - you dry them, eh? The ones I found yesterday has the same flesh-consistency as black trumpets. On the thinner side. I'm tempted to dry these.

Trumpets are excellent dried and crumbled into gravies. Went and got two more huge baskets of them this morning. Even left alot behind.
